SBE Harvest Festival

Our motivated partners at Shaarei-Beth El Congregation of Halton took a huge step in greening their sacred space last month, as they started the installation of a pollinator garden on their property! This installation was paired with a fantastic day of education activities for their Hebrew school students and parents – which connected the importance of pollinators to the Jewish teachings during the Festival of Sukkot (Harvest Festival).

Education Director Cheryl Wise led an inspiring session connecting nature to faith for 100 kids and parents that attended the event, followed by activities led by GSS Halton-Peel, Halton Food CouncilOakvillegreen and local bee/nature expert Gail Trenholm. Activities included a pollinator race, learning about bees, pollinator scavenger hunt, building a solitary bee hotel, decorating the Sukkah and getting their hands dirty in the garden learning about pollinator plants.

We had amazing help from teaching assistants and volunteers, and were blessed with a very sunny day! Congratulations to the Shaarei-Beth El community for doing their part to ensure our local pollinators have a new place to thrive!
